Youth + Family Service Day

For every month that has a 5th Sunday, we want our youth to engage in serving others instead of having our traditional youth worship experience.

As we prepare to start the school year, we want our youth to be reminded that though the school year won't look like it usually does, we should be grateful for the many blessings we do have in this season.

What to Do

Each family that participates is asked to prepare bag lunches. Our recommendation is to buy one loaf of bread and make as many sandwiches as you can, whether they are deli sandwiches or PBJ sandwiches. Add a bag of chips and a bottle of water. Each lunch should be in a bag labeled with the kind of sandwich for easy distribution. We will not be doing any assembly on-site to avoid contamination. Pastor Shala will bring extra bottles of water to distribute.

When preparing your meals, be sure to wash your hands and wear masks just as you would expect food service professionals to do in this pandemic.

Though we will be outside, masks should still be worn as we may not be able to keep 6ft of distance with those we are serving. Also, DC requires masks outdoors. If you do not feel comfortable distributing the sandwiches, but still want to provide meals, please contact Pastor Shala to coordinate a pickup of the lunch bags. All participants will need to sign a Bridge COVID-19 wavier.

How We’ll Spend Our Time

We will meet at Franklin Square park at 1:30pm. It likely won't take a whole hour to distribute our meals. After we are done serving, those who are available are welcome to join us as we walk over to Black Lives Matter Plaza and anywhere else the wind may take us, like walking down to the memorials to visit the MLK Memorial. Make a family date of the day!

Be sure to RSVP to help us get a head count and to make sure we track waivers for everyone.
